Around 44% of Men With Gray Hair are Self-Conscious Over It, Study Finds

Currently, 49% of males have gray hair, and most of them are very self-conscious about it (44%). This is the finding of a poll of 2,000 adult males from all generations about how they handle the aging process’s inevitable changes to their looks.

According to research, the majority of men with gray hair are concerned about looking older (70%). In addition, around 42% of people are worried about how others will see them, particularly since they would be viewed as less attractive if they have gray hair.

Gen Xers and Baby boomers are not comfortable with gray hair until their 50s

While becoming gray could be something that individuals start to notice as early as in their 20s, baby boomers and Gen Xers acknowledged that they were not comfortable having gray hair until they were around 50. Perhaps that’s why 38% decide to conceal their gray hair.

Additionally, the study revealed that over 50% of American men experience occasional insecurity regarding their physical appearance (56% ). Millennials (78%) are the generation that is most self-conscious about how they look, compared to Gen Zers (62%) and Gen Xers (55%).

According to the data, men are bothered about their weight (37%) and the appearance of their eyes on an estimated three times a week when it comes to how they look (22%).

Gray hair is a top worry for Millenials.

Growing gray hair is one of the top worries for males in the millennial (34%) and Gen X (39%) generations, which may explain why 45% of men say they occasionally feel pressure to seem younger than they really are. In addition, millennials (88%) and members of the “silent” generation, or those born between 1928 and 1945 (79%), are particularly concerned with seeming younger than other men their same age.

More than half of males say they work harder than people may realize to keep up their appearance (51 percent ). Thirty-six percent of respondents spend more than a half-hour every day working to appear their best, with millennials and Gen Xers devoting the greatest effort to this task.
