Interesting Items You Should Consider Purchasing Before Your Flexible Spending Account (FSA) Expires

  • July 1, 2020
  • By Payal Gupta

Your Flexible Savings Account or FSA may come in handy, especially when offsetting out-of-pocket medical expenses that are not covered by insurance. In most cases, you will have some money left over and need to spend it before it expires. Here are some items that you should consider purchasing with your remaining FSA amount.

First aid kit

First aid kits are not just an ideal item to purchase because they are eligible to be purchased with FSA money but also because they come with some painkillers in the box. This is ideal for anyone that wants to avoid purchasing expensive painkillers.

Fertility kits, pregnancy kits and condoms

You can also avoid spending out of pocket on fertility items such as condoms, fertility kits, and pregnancy kits. The FSA money can also be used to purchase birth control pills, IUDs, and patches.

Skincare products

Your FSA will also allow you to purchase some skincare products such as hand creams and even SPF moisturizers. This is also the case for skincare products that are designed for preventing and treating acne. However, some skincare products for treating skin conditions such as eczema mat require a doctor’s prescription.

Sunscreen

Products such as sunscreen that are designed to protect your skin from sunburn. They tend to be pricey, and this is why you should consider adding sunscreen products to the list of items to purchase with FSA money.

Prescription glasses and sunglasses

Protective eyewear can also be purchased using FSA money, and this applies to eyewear that helps you see better as well as protective sunglasses. You might even be allowed to purchase designer eyewear from major companies such as Ray-Ban, but keep in mind that you will need a prescription from your optometrist. You can also use your FSA to purchase contact lenses.

Travel essentials

If you travel a lot, especially via planes, then you should consider investing in some items that will make traveling more comfortable. Some of the most common travel items that you likely did not know that you can purchase with your FSA include motion sickness bands, travel pillows, and sunscreen.

Foot care and shoe insert products

If you have foot problems or are trying to invest in avoiding foot problems, then consider purchasing foot care products with your FSA rather than purchasing them with cash out-of-pocket. Your FSA will allow you to purchase a variety of products such as wart removers, arch braces, toe cushions, and shoe inserts.

Breast pumps and other products for nursing moms

Breast pumps and other nursing items are a necessity for working moms. You’ll be glad to know that such items, including breast pumps, baby bottles, breast milk coolers, tote bags, and disposable breast pads can be purchased using FSA money.

Blood pleasure monitors

You can also use your FSA to purchase a variety of medical devices such as blood pressure monitors that will allow you to keep track of your health effectively.

Summary

These are just some of the many items that you can purchase with your FSA money. As a bonus, you can use the amount to cover complementary medical expenses such as paying for chiropractic care or even acupuncture. In short, your FSA can help you keep more cash in your pocket.
