Here are Tips to Ensure Your Child Follows a Regular Sleep Routine

Let your child’s sleep pattern be the same irrespective of whether the seasons have changed. Your child’s sleep routine needs to be the same for families home-school their children and school-going children. Sleep is vital for everybody, and if interrupted, it may result in behavioral and health issues. Here are tips to help your kid get proper sleep.

Follow a routine.

Children and teenagers need to sleep for around ten hours, so you can create a schedule for the child to go to bed and wake up at the same time every day. For example, if the child wakes up at seven in the morning, they should be in bed by 10 PM. It is vital to note that teenagers like to sleep and wake up late, which is not acceptable since most schools do not accommodate this. Although children can sleep late on weekends, you should not allow the time to vary by more than one hour.

Limit screen time before children go to bed

Blue light from an LED screen can keep someone awake. So it is vital to ensure screens are off at least two hours before sleep time. Screens should go off as they begin to prepare for bed. Ensure there are no devices in their bedroom. Expect resistance if you have teenagers but ensure you are firm on this.

Create settings that motivate kids to sleep

Ensure quiet when children go to bed; if you are watching TV, ensure the volume is minimal. Try a white noise machine or a conditioner when living in warm places. Children’s bedrooms should be darkened, especially if you have children that tend to wake up at dawn or there is light outside.

Understand factors that may influence sleep

You can talk to your child to get a schedule for their daily activities to ensure they finish them in time for bed. For example, limit video games and get the child to do homework during school hours. Limit caffeine and naps and ensure the child is involved in physical activity.
