Americans are Making a Summer Bucket List

After being confined in their houses for a year, many Americans are getting new ideas on spending the summer of 2021. A new study finds that almost 6 in 10 people (59%) are ready to try something for the first time in their lives this summer.

Water sports and outdoor activities

The 2,000 American participants surveyed said they feel the happiest when they are on vacation. However, when they were asked what activities they enjoy taking part in, they listed bungee jumping, trying new food, visiting friends, and camping.

Close to a fifth of Americans (17%) want to see a new state or city this summer. Another 39% said seeing family and friends is on top of their to-do list this summer. Meanwhile, two in three participants said they are considering renting an RV or camper, something they didn’t think about before the pandemic.

OnePoll conducted the study for Outdoorsy, an online RV rental platform. It further revealed that two in three Americans had made a summer “bucket list.”

Popular things to do, according to the study, included wakeboarding (43%), camping (47%), surfing (41%), and waterskiing (44%). However, water sports and camping aside, people are also excited about skydiving (36%), hiking (41%), and fishing (35%).

All these plans have led to 60% of the participants making a shopping list. Almost half the poll (46%) cite their need for new camping gear, an RV (33%), or a tent (37%). As a matter of fact. 62% would like to spend their summer outdoors surrounded by nature. Outdoorsy co-founder Jen Young views this as a likely reaction to the events of the past year.

Why people are renting RVs

In a statement, Young observes that as we head to summer, the desire to leave the house is at an all-time high. She adds that there has been an increase of people seeking alternative means of travel that avoid crowds and allow them to be in a location with fresh air and open space. Renting an Rv or campervan naturally gives them this ability and allows them to control their environment.
